Chief "Bad Pelican" · Ojibwe · ~1678–~1760
"Sha-da-wish" is the Ojibwe word for Bad Pelican.
Our company name is not a brand exercise — it is a deliberate act of remembrance. Shadawish was a documented 17th-century Chippewa chief, honored by the French Crown with a gold medal in 1671, and the first Ojibwe leader to pioneer settlement in what is now Wisconsin. His name, in English, is Chief Bad Pelican. He is an ancestor of our founder. We carry that name as a commitment to the same qualities he embodied: precision, leadership, and the courage to build in uncharted territory.
Bad Pelican Technology LLC was founded on a singular conviction: that enterprise-grade software demands full accountability across every layer — from payment infrastructure to the final user interaction. We don't outsource. We don't hand off. We own it.
We operate a growing portfolio of specialized digital products across healthcare, advocacy, and compliance — each built to production standards, maintained with rigor, and scaled with intention.
Our name honors Shadawish — a 17th-century Chippewa chief and ancestor of our founder, whose name translates to "Bad Pelican." A leader recognized by the French Crown, the first Ojibwe pioneer of Wisconsin, and a figure whose legacy reflects the same values we bring to every product we build.
Chief Shadawish received a gold medal from the French in 1671 and pioneered Ojibwe settlement of Wisconsin. He was, officially, Chief Bad Pelican. We named the company after him. He probably would have shipped great software.
